Richard Nichols’ workshop on knife sharpening

We will examine blade types and characteristics; English and French paring knives, lifting knives, shoe knives, spoke shave blades, scalpels, scissors, needles. We will examine tools for sharpening; diamond blocks, oil stones, water stones, the strop. Each sharpening tool will be demonstrated and tips given on how to achieve the best cutting edge. Participants will have time to practice sharpening their own tools by each method and in addition each person will be given a piece of pre-prepared hacksaw blade…
