April 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Theoretically, leather inlays are a relatively simple way of getting your design onto a book, but it can be nerve wracking to make that first irreversible cut into the cover of a book that you have spent the last few days/weeks/months forwarding. And, in order for them to look smart, it is vitally important that they fit perfectly and are at the same level. Kate will work through the whole process of how to do both individual inlays and mosaic inlays, sharing her tips and tricks learned from working with the late Derek Hood on a collaborative Booker Prize binding, and through her own experience

Kate is a multi-award-winning artist bookbinder, specialising in contemporary fine bindings to commission or for exhibition. She is a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders, a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) scholar, and a designated Master Artisan in the Michelangelo Foundation Homo Faber guide to artisans throughout Europe. She has books in the British Library, Bodleian, Victoria & Albert, and Yale University Libraries as well as numerous public and private collections internationally. She has a wealth of teaching experience at all levels and is currently engaged in establishing a bookbinding module at Bath Spa University.
