The Society of Bookbinders is sponsoring a place on TABOR, a year-long online residency for book artists, and we're sharing the call for applications here. If you're a book artist — or you know someone who might be interested — read on, and feel free to pass this along.

About TABOR

TABOR is a year-long online residency for book artists, built around shared learning, professional development, and creating new work for a final group exhibition. Residents take part in a structured programme of professional development workshops and skillshares, working with facilitators including Karen Hanmer, Greg Thorpe, Rosalind Davis and others, covering subjects such as building resilience as a professional artist, curation, and leading online workshops. Residents rank and vote on the workshop options most relevant to their practice, and take part in three to five sessions with follow-up activity.

Funding

The residency has no tuition fee. Instead, residents receive £300 for producing a new piece for the exhibition and £150 for delivering an outreach workshop, with reasonable expenses reimbursed (materials for skillshares, postage, etc.). In return, participants commit to a year of developing their own skills, contributing to the group, and supporting each other's practice. Residents need to be UK based and available for group meetings on Thursdays at 7pm.

The Society's Sponsored Place

For 2027, the Society of Bookbinders is generously sponsoring one of the eight places, reserved for an artist with a background in bookbinding, book history, or a clear intention to explore these areas during the residency year. You don't need to be an experienced binder — beginners are welcome.
