The Maureen Duke Educational Award 2019

The panel for this year’s Award was Sara Tupper, Sarah Burns (Chair of SOB) and Claire Redfern (Chair of Education & Training).

We received four applications this year, all of which were excellent.  After much discussion it was decided that:

The Maureen Duke Award 2019 should be awarded to WANDA ROBINS.

Wanda, who is an active member of the London & South Region’s committee, now lives and works in London after being born, brought up and studying in the USA. Following a career change she graduated from the Camberwell College of Art with an MA in Conservation of Books and Archival material and is currently completing her student placement work at the V&A museum  She has been a hobby bookbinder for more than 20 years and has undertaken numerous bookbinding courses.

She will use her award for one-on-one training with Mylyn McColl and Arthur Green. Wanda feels that this will help her understand the complexities of damaged books as she feels the craft of bookbinding is critical to conservation work.
