East Anglia - Vast and Flat

The Wash to the Thames, Shoe and Leather centre to the Seaside. Wide open skies over flat fenland to busy conurbations. From high tech to pretty ‘wool’ villages, our Region draws members from seven counties. We are fortunate to include amongst them both skilled traditional book binders and clever designer book artists. Our workshops are held in the rough epicentre of the Region at Linton, just east of Cambridge, with several small groups meeting to work together at binderies all over the area. At various locations across the Region courses are on offer, which cater for both the beginner and improver led by talented teachers of all types of our craft.

The Chairman and Committee of the East Anglia region are very sad to report that our Regional Secretary, Sue Collins, died unexpectedly on Monday 29th April 2019.  Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time. We would like to record here our gratitude for all the hard work Sue did over many years to help our region become the vibrant branch it is, and we will continue to work to ensure that Sue’s legacy continues.

The East Anglia meetings base is Linton Village Hall in Coles Lane, Linton, Cambridgeshire, CB21 4JS. See individual event entries for start times. Meetings usually finish between 3:30pm and 4:00pm.

Tea and coffee are provided but attendees need to bring their own packed lunch. A fee is charged for those attending workshops, either as participants or observers. In addition, there is usually a charge for materials provided for workshop activities. Non-members are always welcome if places permit but the fee is higher.

Please email the Meetings Secretary for more information or download the workshop booking form to complete and return. Places are limited (except for the January Social and the AGM meeting) so booking is essential.

Saturday 23 March saw the first workshop of 2019 at Linton Village Hall with George Davidson showing us how to make a longstitch binding.  The photo is not so much a Where’s Wally? but Where’s George?  He must be in there somewhere.
