Workshop description:
The style of box provides ideal storage for various sizes and shapes of books and
papers. The basic construction is a wraparound enclosure with a four sided box.
Cost: £50 for members, £75 for non-members; plus £37 for materials

Biography: Born in Tokyo, Midori graduated from the BA(Hons) Academy of Arts course, Joshibi
University of Art and Design, Tokyo. She started learning fine binding in Tokyo and obtained a diploma
with merit in Fine Bookbinding and Conservation from Guildford College of Technology UK.
Since graduating, Midori has given workshops, lectures and exhibitions in the various countries. She
opened the ‘Jade Bookbinding Studio’ in London 1997 concentrating on private tuition and
commissioned and personal work. Her work is held in public and private collections in the UK, USA,
Europe and Japan. She was awarded among 25 distinguished winners in Designer Bookbinders
International Competition 2017 at Bodleian Library, Oxford U.K.
Midori was a speaker at the Society of Bookbinders Conference in 2019. She was awarded among 34
exhibited boxes in the box making competition “Box your book 2021” by the Foundation for Hand
Bookbinding, The Netherlands. She was elected Fellow of Designer Bookbinders (U.K.) in 2007 and is a
member of The Society of Bookbinders (U.K.) and The Tokyo Bookbinding Club (Japan).
