Diana Illingworth-Cooke: Working with magnets
August 14 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
Magnets offer exciting new opportunities to book artists, binders and box makers. Displayed as part of the design or discreetly hidden under covering material, they can hold things closed, or hold them open, or even keep things in place. In this workshop we will be exploring the properties of different types and sizes of magnets and their use as closures, attachments and hinges. You will make a set of samples contained in a simple wrapper box that will inspire your imagination and creativity and enabling the inclusion of magnets to enhance your own work.
Cost of materials: £12
Tools to bring: PVA (small pot will be plenty), brush or roller for glueing out, small brush or glue applicator, cutting mat, suitable craft knife or scalpel for cutting up to 2250 micron greyboard and cover paper, metal rule, bone folder, fine straight awl/dissecting needle. If you have them, please also bring: 10mm round punch, small hammer, super glue with fine point applicator.
Charges for members: £25 to take part in the workshop plus the materials charge,
£10 to attend as an observer. Tea, coffee and biscuits included, please bring your own lunch. Meetings will begin at 10.30 prompt, please arrive earlier to allow time to get set up ready for the start time, finishing about 16.30
If you want a place on a workshop please email Sue to book – email@example.com, 07974 709664
Participation in the workshop is dependant on your having paid in advance.
Four weeks before, Sue will e-mail all those who have booked and requesting they confirm their place and make payment for the workshop plus materials. We would prefer direct transfer to our bank account, but a cheque sent promptly to Sue would be ok too (exact details will be in the e-mail). You will need to confirm and pay within one week, so that Sue can offer any newly vacant places to those on the waiting list. Should anyone have to cancel after payment has been made we will refund provided we have been able to fill the place; if we are unable to refund we would endeavour to provide a set of the notes and the materials.
We are expecting to welcome observers who will pay on the day.
Our updated Covid Guidelines will be circulated nearer the time depending on government announcements.
