Book Art Workshop with Ruth Martin: Carving & Printing with rubber stamps
Ruth’s Artists’ Books have been exhibited and sold in galleries and shops throughout the UK and abroad. Her work is held in the collection of Tate Britain and has been shown at the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition.
The day will start with a display of Ruth’s books. She will explain the ideas behind them, the folds and the stamps used to create them. Most of the imagery within Ruth’s books is created by her intricately carved rubber stamps. Ruth will then show students how to carve the rubber stamps and how to work creatively with them, registering multiple colours, masking prints and print placement.
At the end of the day students will have carved some rubber stamps to take home and printed with them on a variety of formats.
Students should bring a pencil (and scalpel if they have one). Paper will be provided but students are welcome to bring any of their own if they wish.
