Artist Book Group
October 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Malcolm Raggett will host some informal meetings focusing broadly on book arts and particularly artist books. These meetings will be online via Zoom. Members can book with firstname.lastname@example.org. The sessions themselves will be informal discussions, more like meeting in a cafe or pub, not a formal demonstration or workshop (what’s more, you have to bring your own bottle or teacup!)
Meetings run throughout 2021. They will be held on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. The date for the remainder of 2021 are: 18 October, 15 November and 20 December. After these meetings we’ll make a decision on whether to continue.
Although rigid definitions are anathema for artists, for clarification: an artist book is a book done for its own sake with artistic intent and not for the information it contains. And it isn’t just about the binding. Unfortunately the artist book is a rather neglected medium for self-expression especially as art colleges close their letterpress and binding workshops. Being an ‘outsider’ art form can have its attractions but one of the penalties is that artists working with the book form can work in relative isolation. These meet-ups provide a social venue with informal support and encouragement for any member making books as works of art. Whether you’re new to this art or a veteran, whether you consider yourself an artist or not, come along and find out what we’re about!
