Since qualifying in bookbinding from Guildford College in 1993 Sarah has been providing innovative and sympathetic solutions to various repair and restoration problems. Her work has been inspired by her earlier training in textiles and her primary aim is to retain the ‘feel’ of the original item. So, for example, Sarah will dye down paper and leather to match an original as closely as possible. She will work with customers, incorporating their concepts or views of the item into a finished design. For specific or design bindings Sarah will hand print unique endpapers. She works using a range of materials but predominantly with cloth and fine goatskin.

Sarah has worked with a range of private customers in Surrey and beyond and has several corporate clients, including the Royal Grammar School, Guildford; the Royal Horticultural Society, Wisley; and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Trust.

Florentine in Bloei This was a presentation volume to be given to a Dutch woman whose main love was gardening. The client wanted to portray that and after discussion we agreed on astro turf for the front and back boards, with a green leather spine and surrounds. The final binding also benefited from hand printed endpapers using a snowdrop motif.

	Book of Common Prayer This Victorian miniature version, measuring just 55mm by 45mm and 28mm thick, was presented in a very distressed state. The thin pages, probably on India paper, were somewhat worn with some tears. The charming binding had a silver plated front board with a dark red leather rear board, all of which was in significant need of restoration. The final result has been restored to be in keeping with its former glory.
