MARYSA DE VEER

Marysa has been binding books for over twelve years. She trained under Maureen Duke at Guildford College and gained valuable work experience at the Royal Bindery, Windsor Castle, Berkshire and formed part of the team evacuating books during the fire of 1993.

In 1993 she set up The Otter Bindery which specialises in the ‘invisible’ repair of antiquarian books. Marysa also designs bindings and submits the entries regularly at the Society of Bookbinders and Designer Bookbinder competitions as well as internationally.

Holy Bible

A nineteenth century Bible. The spine had come away from the binding and the boards were loose. The original boards were re–attached using new dyed and toned calf to match the original and the spine put back. The book was then polished.

The Perfumed Garden

Corners consolidated, repaired and made up where necessary. Leaves re-guarded with dyed aero-linen, book re-sewn, Islamic style headbands sewn on, spine lined, missing areas of covering leather made up, boards reattached with aero-linen joints under Victorian marbled pastedowns, original siding paper replaced.
