A Close-Up session of the Tregaskis Miniature Collection at The John Rylands Library, Manchester. 20 places available. 11.30 - 12.30.

The session will be led by John Hodgson, Keeper of Manuscripts and Archives. Also on show will be the ‘Neale Albert Miniatures’ and 'From Kashmir to Kandy: a South Asian Odyssey' …a feast for the eyes and a wealth of inspiration…

Maureen Duke: ‘Finishing for the Frightened’ (Demonstration & Workshop) 15 places available.

Maureen will start the day with a demonstration (lasting approx 1 hour) showing the types of finishing that we can then experience.

After lunch at approx. 1.00 pm, the practical session will be resumed. The workshop is suitable for absolute beginners to the 'more advanced'.

Material Cost: £2.00. Please bring: straight edge; dividers; pencil; bone folder; fillets; pallets; decorative rolls and any other tools you may wish to use. Please also bring a gold knife and pad if you have one.

After the day’s event, we will be celebrating with Maureen the year of her 80th Birthday. A buffet meal will be available in the Community Centre, Kelsall 6.00 – 8.00pm. Cost £10 (bring your own wine). ALL MEMBERS WELCOME – even if not attending the workshop! Please advise Joan by 16th August if you are attending the celebration.

Old Stile Press, Llandogo, Monmouth (Visit) 1.30 for 2.00 pm. Frances and Nicolas will welcome us and give an insight into the joys and dilemmas involved in running a private press.Bound and unbound sheets will be available for purchase.

Weather permitting, enjoy a wander in the garden and view the meanderings of the River Wye or appreciate the Harry Brockway sculptures. There is also a plethora of original artwork on every available wall space… so inspiring!

Old Stile Press is reached by travelling south on the M6 and M5. Leave the M5 at J8 (M50) follow the M50 to its end at Ross on Wye, then follow the A40 to just before Monmouth. On the left, join the A466 (signposted Chepstow). When you have passed Llandogo, Old Stile will be found on the left approx. 1 mile before Tintern Abbey (also on the left) If you reach Tintern Abbey – you have missed Old Stile Press …go back!

Stephen Conway Slipcase and Portfolio (Demonstration & Workshop)

Stephen will lead a workshop at which we will make a Slipcase. This will be followed by a demonstration on the making of a portfolio.

Material Cost: £5.00 (Stephen will provide boards, lining paper, cloth etc. for the slipcase).

Please bring: bone folder; scissors; craft knife; ruler; small cutting mat; pencil.

Kate Hore: Simple Headbands (Workshop)

Kate will demonstrate a simple headband, following which there will be the opportunity for members to try the technique for themselves.

Please bring: rounded and backed text block (approx 2cm wide - this could be a book from a charity shop), scissors; craft knife; bench press (if possible); boards to support book in press. If anyone has a book with an unusual headband – please bring it along!

Kate will supply threads, needles, and core for headbands.

All meetings start at 11.00am with coffee/tea and biscuits at 10.30 am, the cost of which is included in the charge of £5 for demonstrations and £10 for workshops. Sometimes there is a charge by the tutor for the cost of preparing and providing materials. Members may chose to bring lunch or purchase sandwiches locally.
