OTHER
ATTRACTIONS
In addition to our
speakers, a panel of experienced binders will hold surgeries, offering
advice to any delegates who care to bring along work in progress.
We are planning a programme of visits for the Thursday afternoon of
the Conference. These will include visits to the York Minster Library
including its archive and conservation department, the Castle Museum,
the Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum and a conducted
walk around the walls of the City. There will also be excursions to
Castle Howard and Shandy Hall. The Conference Dinner will be held
in the National Railway Museum.
SUPPLIERS' FAIR
As in previous years, companies offering materials,
tools and other equipment for bookbinding, conservation and related
crafts will be
an attraction for delegates. The fair will be situated in the Exhibition
Centre overlooking the lake at the heart of the University campus and
in close proximity to the other conference activities. Adequate time
will be allowed for browsing and shopping. There will be a ‘crèche’ for
these purchases.
BOOKBINDING COMPETITION
Entries for the SoB International Bookbinding
Competition 2007 will be on display and the winners of the various
categories will be announced
at the Conference Dinner. Full details of the competition are on the
Society’s website. The last day for registration is 10th March
and entries must be in by 1st June 2007.
AUCTION
A live auction will take place at the end of the conference dinner
in the National Railway Museum on the Saturday night. We expect some
very exciting items to be offered.
There will also be a silent auction of smaller objects running throughout
the conference. Bidding will close just before dinner on the Saturday.
To make the auction a success, however, we need your help!
Please bring your donations with you to York and the auction team will
do the rest. You might have a spare copy of a favourite book, a nice
tool or two, or some useful material to spare. We welcome all donations,
however small, for both the live and the silent auctions.
All the money raised will help fund the educational activities of the
Society.
