    Workshop 121: Conservation of Leather Bindings
    Workshop 122: Individual Book Conservation Training

    Dates by mutual agreement when enough participants are interested. Both courses run over a total of four days over two weekends. Each workshop is intended for students of bookbinding or conservation courses as well as qualified book conservators, paper conservators or archives conservators.

    All workshops take place at the Northampton studio and run from 10-5 pm each day to allow participants time for travel. Karen and her staff are happy to help participants find accommodation during the workshops. Lunch is provided.

    Karen Vidler established Book Conservation Services (previously Karen Vidler Book Conservation) in 2006. She is a book conservator with more than 15 years’ experience in the conservation and restoration of books. She is also a qualified bookbinder as well as a specialist in the conservation and care of leather bindings.

    First Wednesday of every month in Abingdon

    The Bodleian Libraries Packaging and Display Section (PADS) provide a cloth covered box making service and cloth covered box kits. A one day course has been developed to learn how to use the kit to make a box successfully and quickly. By the end of the day you will have a completed box to take away. We are confident conservators and bookbinders will find these robust boxes offer optimum protection while being fun to make. The box has been designed to be made with minimum use of specialist equipment. The price, £150, covers the cost of the kit, comprehensive notes, tuition, tea and coffee (bring your own packed lunch). Alternatively, a visit to your workplace or workshop can be made at extra cost.

  • Salisbury Book Crafts

    Three terms per academic year in the autumn, winter and spring. Each term consists of 5 sessions on Saturdays from 10 - 4 with an hour’s break for lunch. The venue is the Harnham Scout Hut, Lower Street, just off the Harnham Road on the southern side of Salisbury. Dates are normally every other Saturday but scheduling depends on availability of the Scout Hut.

    Students are expected to commit financially to a single term but are free to come to whichever session suits them. The cost for 1 term is £80.00.
